Run 1251 - The Chequers Berrick Salome

The trial was very muddy because there had been lots of rain but it had stopped by the time we met at the pub.  All our cars confused potential customers into thinking that the pub was open so a few knocked on the door.  But we were only using the car park and the On Inn was at The Shepherd’s Hut in Ewelme (more of that later).

The Chequers being closed was reminiscent of the May Day run when ALL the pubs were closed in Oxford after the trail!

I forgot to get the trail map from Twitcher and, being the age I am, can’t remember any of it.  I know that I really enjoyed it despite getting more than two pounds of mud stuck to each shoe as we crossed a few ploughed fields.

Hotlips and Big Stiffy didn’t come to the pub because she had to wash her hair (or that was the rumour anyway).  Probably for the best as it was a bit further than we thought and the roadsigns had been removed to fight against enemy invasion.  Epic and Lemony met going in opposite directions on the wrong side of Benson!  But we made it in the end – too late for chips but in time to see Pyro tucking into a bowl of chicken wings!

The Down Down shirt went to Epic.  Some dogs show you the trail, some trip you up.  Some dog owners teach their pooch to “sit and stay” some teach them to “come”.  But Epic has taught Charlie “On On”!

Rubber Sole told the assembled group that she had been in touch with Henry V and A Cruel Joke who were still in Australia.  They had had a virtual coffee morning!  Henry V said she preferred the Didcot Hash to the Aussie hashes as they drink too much!  We’d better get in more practice before they come back to the UK.
