Run 1241 – The Catherine Wheel Goring

Apologies for the delay in posting this trash but it has taken me a week to press the map enough to be able to re-visit the route.  Skidmark was looking very pale and had been ill the day before so he and Rob had set out at 8am to lay the trail, making it to the coffee shop by 10am for a coffee to warm up and short rest before heading for the start.  The public car park was full to overflowing because there was a Mothers’ Day service in the church so we had to start lining the road.

We set off up the road from the pub and weaved round the houses very quickly with no checks.  Worry started to set in.  Had the first time hares forgotten that us oldies need time to catch our breath?  But no, they had just wanted to lead us out into the countryside as quickly as possible.  We got to the recreation ground and set off eastwards along the side of the fields.

The hares had made good use of the Wycombe On Back markings with numbers appearing at regular intervals along the trail.

Lemony set off checking down hill and sliding all over the place.  She was so chuffed to find the 3rd pile of flour and commented that it was OK to check down hill if it was the right way.  This was her downfall as, on reaching the bottom of the hill, she had to run back up to the back of the group – and slide back down again!

Back at the pub the landlord kindly fitted us into a corner, producing a box and an anvil along with a settle to sit on even though the pub was jam-packed with families for Sunday lunch.  The GM and RA were absent and the deputy RA had left early to take her own mother out to lunch.  So Zorro took charge of the naming Rob.  He is known for rolling in slippy mud with Skidmark (although he professed to being the cleaner of the two as he wiped) and has a penchant for Poundland so he was christened Cheapskate.
