Run 1225 - The Red Lion Brightwell cum Sotwell
Roast potatoes and gravy, and good beer. Well the pub certainly did itself proud. The food was delicious – well it must have been as CS drank the gravy straight from the gravy boat.
The trail set off East from the pub towards the ring road, then North East straight across at the roundabout before turning left up towards Sotwell Hill Barn and along the edge of the garden of the nursing home where Pressganger’s parents are now resident. Everyone stopped to wave and CS wondered if Big Stiffy thought he was looking in the mirror (how rude!). We continued on this path up the barn and then wiggled up towards the river. A wander through the woods before a quick right/left took us to the water’s edge. It had been raining so the path was rather muddy so we were slipping and sliding along. But the view was stunning. Lemony had finally warmed up and tucked her gloves into her shorts. This gave rise to a number of comments about tucking socks into trousers and how it pays to advertise! We went over the foot bridge and on to the next bend in the river. Here there were a number of options to get back to the Roman Road. We turned South for the long run back to the village and the pub.
