Run 1146A - The Longest Day Streatley Hill

How many hashers can you fit in the car park at the top of Streatley Hill?  Lots!  There were murmurings of concern at 4.20am when the Jefferies’ mean machine (or campervan) had not yet arrived.  But who wants to get up earlier than necessary?

The group set off into the first field and the sun was hinting at rising.  Into the next field where we found a courting couple, equipt with blanket and camera (!), hoping for a romantic sun rise.  The first on the longest day for many years.  Well, we certainly spoilt that for them.  Particularly when CS suggested that the rising sun should be welcomed with a moon.  Luckily all the other hashers ignored him.

Spot suggested that, as it was so early in the morning, we use hand signals instead of calls when we were near houses.  I’m not sure I saw any houses but there was a lot of “shhhhing” going on in the woods.  I think the beasts of the woods were more upset by our feet than our noise.

I don’t have a plan of the run, but it was lovely, albeit rather up and down.  We had a view point at the top of one hill and the trail snuck up beside the bench into the woods.  Everyone missed this one and spent quite some time trying to find the markings in the next field.  Lemony confused everyone by trying to hand signal “ who the hell knows which way it goes?” so Gnome and Spot called us back and pointed us up yet another hill.

Back to the car park for sausage, bacon and egg butties, buck’s fizz and raspberries, tea and coffee, fruit juice and a veggie option.

We raised £10 more than the cost of the food so this was donated to Sobell House in the name of the hash.

Spot did hash words.  He introduced the 2 Hot Lips and gave Lemony a bunch of flowers for catering for the past 3 years.  They were beautiful and lasted 2 weeks.  She felt rather guilty as Pressganger had been on butty duty this year.  But she and Wimpey had done the shopping!

Everyone was glad it was a Saturday.  Some went down to Goring for a walk along the river, others gathered their strength and did Park Run.  But all were completely knackered by the evening – well they were in our house anyway.
